Off-Duty Employment Request

  1. The Sherman Police Department allows employees to engage in certain employment outside the Department. Officers may engage in employment conditioned on the potential use of law enforcement authority for the benefit of the City and its citizens. Employees have primary responsibility to work for the City of Sherman Police Department. Officers serve as a supplement to on-duty personnel while engaged in off-duty employment and are subject to recall at any time.

    As of October 1, 2023 off-duty officer employment is at a rate of $45.00 an hour per officer if request is received 7 days prior to the event.  

    Jobs requiring officers to work outside are paid at a rate of $50.00 per hour.

    If the request is received less than 7 days prior to the event, the rate is $50.00 an hour per officer. 

    Events requiring more than 4 officers also require a supervisor at a rate of $50.00 per hour, in addition to the four officers who are paid at $45.00 per hour.  

    Officers hired for national holidays are payed at a rate of $50.00 per hour.

    If a patrol vehicle is requested the rate is $23.00 per hour and must be paid directly to the City of Sherman by check.      

    Officer(s) will be paid at the beginning of the event.

  12. CANCELLATION NOTICE - If the event is canceled, a 24-hour notice is required. If cancellation notice is not received, there is a 3-hour minimum fee due.
