The City is divided into four districts, with a Council member elected to represent the residents of that district. There are seven members elected to the Sherman City Council. The Mayor and six Council members are elected from the City at large. All serve three-year terms. To find out who your district Council representative is, contact the City Manager’s Office or the City Clerk’s Office. Sherman Fire-Rescue will only unlock a vehicle if there is a person or animal locked inside or if the engine is running in an enclosed space such as a garage. Any locksmith can be called to open your vehicle.
The Sherman Fire-Rescue does not host parties at any of the stations. Our crews must remain in-service and ready to respond to emergency calls. You may schedule a tour of the station before, during or after your party by calling 903-892-7273 to set up an appointment.

Local History and some Texana materials are available at Sherman Public Library. The majority of genealogy resources have been transferred to the new genealogy research facilities at Frontier Village, Loy Park, Denison.
We still have a number of the "green dot" how-to and general genealogy books available to check out, including books on Ancestry and Family Search online resources. Our microfilm copies of the Herald Democrat and microfiche of some local and Texas history are available here for patron use, and patrons can use the microfiche machine to print and email clippings from those resources.
We also maintain our subscription to Ancestry Library Edition as well as Heritage Quest on our TexShare databases, the latter of which is available from home for our patrons.

CDBG is a Program authorized by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 in place of several community development categorical grant programs. CDBG provides eligible metropolitan cities and urban counties (called ‘entitlement communities’) with annual direct grants that they can use to revitalize neighborhoods, expand affordable housing and economic opportunities, and/or improve community facilities and services, principally to benefit low- and moderate-income persons.
The demolition process starts with a call to the Neighborhood Services Superintendent at 903-487-5988. The Inspection Official will then determine if the structure is eligible for demolition under one of the city’s programs. Location of the house determines what funds will be used to demolish the structure. The length of time for the demolition varies greatly due to a number of circumstances. The most time-consuming task is to contact all of the people who might have an ownership in the property and have them sign a release to demolish the house. This task alone can take up to six months or more.

Public services agencies provide an invaluable opportunity for the low- to moderate-income Sherman residents by offering diverse services that impact their quality of life. Every age group from the elderly to the youth benefits from services provided by nonprofits funded by the Community Development Block Grant.
The CDBG law requires that a grantee must develop and follow a detailed plan which emphasizes participation by persons of low- or moderate- income, particularly residents of predominantly low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, slum or blighted areas, and area in which the grantee proposes to use CDBG funds. The plan must provide citizens with reasonable and timely access to local meetings, information and records related to the grantee’s proposed and actual use of funds.

If you wish to register for a class online you can go to our online registration . If registering for a Learn to Swim class, please note the course number in red on the Learn to Swim Schedule. This number will correlate with the courses at registration.

Accident reports are $6.00 through the Police Department. The fee is established by the Texas Transportation Code under Section 550.065(d). If you call 9-1-1 by mistake, do not hang up. Tell the call taker what happened so they know there really isn't an emergency.
If you use a VRS (Video Relay Service) or IP (Internet Protocol) Relay, you should: - Register and provide your address with the relay provider of your choice. Keep your address updated. - Be aware that relay calls may take several minutes to connect. If you hang up, your call may not be connected to 9-1-1. - Be prepared to provide your location information using an address, cross streets or landmarks, since relay calls may not display your location. - Answer the call taker's questions. - You may need to be transferred to another 9-1-1 center. Stay on the call if it is safe.
If you do not have a TTY/TDD or access to Relay services, you should dial 9-1-1, preferably from a landline/home phone. Do not hang up, keep the line open. With 9-1-1 calls made from a home phone, the caller's address is displayed on the call taker's screen, the call taker can listen for background noise, and help will be sent to the location displayed. As a last resort, call from a cell phone and leave the line open, your approximate location may be displayed.
Texting to 9-1-1 is not available in most areas.
If the information you request falls within one of the exceptions to disclosure found in the Public Information Act, the governmental body may refuse to release the information while it seeks an open records decision from the Attorney General. Unless the governmental body has a previous determination from a court or the Attorney General regarding the precise information requested, a governmental body cannot determine on its own to withhold information.
1. write the Attorney General, asking for a decision and state which exceptions apply to the requested information;
2. provide the requestor with a written statement that the governmental body wishes to withhold the information and that it has asked the Attorney General for a decision;
3. provide the requestor with a copy of the governmental body's correspondence to the Attorney General; and
4. make a good faith attempt to notify, in the form prescribed by the Attorney General, any affected third parties of the request.
Within fifteen business day of receiving your request, the governmental body must:
1. write the Attorney General and explain how the claimed exceptions apply;
2. provide a copy of your written request to the Attorney General;
3. provide a signed statement to the Attorney General stating the date the request was received by the governmental body or provide evidence sufficient to establish the date the request was received; and
4. provide copies of the documents requested or a representative sample of the documents to the Attorney General and the documents must be labeled to show which exceptions apply to which parts of the documents.
