The City of Sherman will cease servicing residential trash containers in alleyways at the close of March. Starting 01 April 2024, our residential trucks will no longer enter alleys to service containers. You will need to place your containers on the City street, not in an alleyway, to be serviced. This means the street that has your house’s address. Example: a house on Main Street that has been placing its trash in Main Alley would start placing its containers on Main Street.
This change is taking place for a combination of safety reasons and road surface wear. These alleys were not designed to accommodate the weight of a trash truck and this has caused heavy wear and tear to the drive surface of these alleys. As for safety, these alleys were not built for two-way traffic nor were their intersections built to accommodate the turning radius of such a large vehicle.
Through the end of March, you may continue to place your trash containers in the alley as you have done or place them on a regular Sherman street. Starting 01 April 2024, you should place your containers on a regular Sherman street instead of in the alley. Again, this is the street named in the address of your house.
