The parking situation in downtown Sherman has consistently ranked as the top complaint of local businesses and visitors alike. The fact of the matter is that Sherman does not have enough on-street parking to satisfy everyone’s desires.
So, in an effort to make available more hourly parking, the City of Sherman will be making some changes to our Houston/Crockett lot. Paid parking will be moved to the back portion of the lot in order to open approximately 60 additional spots for hourly parking.
Here’s what this will mean for our paid parking customers going forward:
- Both the front and back portions of the Houston/Crockett lot will be temporarily closed to allow for resurfacing and repainting of the lots. This closure is scheduled for March 13, but could happen later depending on weather. The lot will be closed through the end of the month.
- Upon reopening, the back portion of the lot will be reserved exclusively for paid parkers. Spots will no longer be individually marked, and will be available on a first come, first served, basis.
- Any vehicle with a Sherman parking sticker in the back window can use the back portion of the lot at any time for as long as desired. If you have already paid for 2023, a sticker is included with this letter. Month-to-month payments will no longer be accepted.
If you would no longer like to be a part of the City of Sherman’s parking program after this change, please contact us for a full refund. Free, all-day parking will continue to be available at the City’s Montgomery Street lot, between Houston and Wall streets. If you would like to request a spot in the new lot, please fill out the form you can find here.
