October of 2019 saw nearly 60 new homes permitted for construction, which was the most in a single month in Sherman since the homebuilding boom of the 1970s. Permits for new homes have been increasing steadily in recent years, reaching 194 in 2018. With two months remaining in 2019, the city figures to shatter that record as it continues to experience record growth.
"After years of laying the groundwork for growth with new infrastructure, enhanced quality-of-life, and new and exciting businesses, Sherman is poised to continue the brisk growth we've experienced in recent years," said Sherman Community and Support Services Manager Nate Strauch. "Our wonderful city really does have it all - tons of fantastic parks and outdoor activities, a regionally-renowned hub for shopping and entertainment, and a small-town feel that's unmatched in other Texas cities our size. It's a tantalizing package for prospective residents, all located just an hour from downtown Dallas."
