Gainesville Swing Orchestra’s 25 piece band will keep you dancing until you can’t dance anymore. Fill your plate with heavy hors d’oeuvre catered by downtown’s own Fulbelli’s and enjoy wine, beer and specialty drinks while mingling with friends and colleagues. Ticket price $75.

Kids’ Day Making History

Red River Mardi Gras & Jazz Festival in conjunction with SCP Theatricks is excited to present Making History: A Cultural Fair!
Downtown Sherman Preservation and Revitalization (DSP&R) and SCPTheatricks have created the event “Making History”: a Cultural Fair! for all families to enjoy! It will be held at the Kidd-Key Auditorium and Municipal Ballroom at 400 N Elm Saturday, February 7th from 10 am to 2 pm. The day will provide an exciting look at various cultures centered in the Texoma region such as Choctaw, African-American, Hispanic, and a mixture of European. Each group will be exhibiting various historical aspects of their culture through music, dance, food, arts and crafts, and games. The Fair is free and will allow plenty of opportunities for those in attendance to experience many things first hand.
Performances will include (scheduled events):
-Choctaw Dancers
-Choctaw Story-telling
-Choctaw Stick Ball Demonstration
-African American Gospel Singing
-Drum Circle
-Hispanic Dancing
-Barbershop Quartet
-The Greater North Texas Children’s Choir
-Some 10 minute one-act plays depicting the history of Sherman and Texoma
Activities will include (participation encourage and will run the entire four hours):
-Mask Making with variations on Hispanic and African-American masks
-Hispanic paper flower making
-African American food creating
-Hispanic food creating
-Choctaw pottery demonstration
*Plus, a display of a cultural quilt by 2nd graders at Neblett Elementary, an art quilt depicting Sherman History by Neblett’s art club, a coloring book including fun facts by the Sherman Museum, and a representative from the Railroad Museum to validate a historical quiz and distribute prizes.
We hope to see everyone there for what should be a fun-filled and educational day of “Making History”!
