The office of the city attorney provides timely and accurate professional services to the
City Council,
city manager, staff and the city
boards and commissions, involving all legal matters of municipal concern. The city attorney serves at the pleasure and direction of the City Council.
Functions
The city attorney serves as legal adviser of, and attorney for, all of the offices and departments of the City of Sherman and the City Council. In addition to representing the city in litigation and legal proceedings before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, he serves as prosecutor in the city’s
Municipal Court. The city attorney’s responsibilities include drafting or reviewing all city ordinances, resolutions, contracts, easements, deeds and other legal documents.
The city attorney does not provide legal advice or representation to the public on private matters.
