ISO Ratings

Insurance Services Office (ISO)
The ISO provides reliable information about the fire protection services of a geographic area to the Texas Department of Insurance so that they may establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties.

Public Protection Classification (PPC)

The ISO collects information on the fire protection efforts of a municipality, analyzes the data and assigns a PPC from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 the worst. The rating is the result of an evaluation of a fire district’s firefighting capability and the associated water system. The fire department measurement is 50% of the rating, while the water department is 40% and the dispatch area is 10%. The City of Sherman received a PPC 2 rating on February 1, 2012, after an ISO inspection was performed in April 2011. This improvement is estimated to save the average homeowner $125 each year in fire insurance.
